2 ways - active and passive. If your site is built on a CMS (content management system) platform, you can login and update text and images to your pages online - changes will occur in realtime. Or you can create the impression of updates by streaming information like video clips, newsfeeds and news tickers which are updated at their source so you don't need to. This is done by inserting a code snippet (a few lines of code) into your page which draws content from a third-party server. An example is the Google AdSense program.

Active or passive, it's always good to keep your site current so visitors know that they can rely on the information as relatively current. This is especially important if you expect them to share it with friends!
