In a nutshell, social media sites are your soapboxes, marketplace rostrums or garden party venues where members click, tag and share stuff within the community. As with gossip, if it buzzes, it could spread like wildfire and before you know it, the social souffle may have spilled over to other communities and the talk of the town is now all over the net.

Imagine the buzz is about your site and everyone has a link to it, what a boost that will be for your site's page rank! The more community links there are to your site, the more 'popular' it is in search engine (notably Google) terms. All you need to do is lay the bait.

You can do that in two ways. Give visitors a reason to bookmark your page with social media and let them evangelise your content for you. Or, join online communities yourself and share with others. Do both.

Develop a knack for pushing the right content by watching others - go blogspotting - a favorite past-time of SMOs (social media optimizers) who you can also turn to for help if you don't fancy doing research.
